Mortlake and district residents wanting to assist individuals and families impacted by the weekend’s devastating fires can now drop off non-perishable donations at Abbeyfield House Mortlake.
Residents, staff and management at Abbeyfield House Mortlake have come together to coordinate the local drop off centre.
They are now collecting donations of items such as bottled water, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste and sanitary items as well as tinned food, pet food and other general non-perishable items.
Chief executive officer Deb Rantall said Abbeyfield House Mortlake would arrange transport for all goods received and work with other agencies assisting the recovery to make sure they made a small difference to those most affected.
“Like everyone in our community, we’ve all been reflecting on what was a horrific weekend for south-west Victoria,” she said.
“There was a real passion within our Abbeyfield community to do something positives…small acts of generosity are important to let those affected know that we are thinking of them, we do care and they have our love and support.”
Mrs Rantall said anyone wanting more information should contact Julie Stewart-Murray or Debi McAuliffe on 5599 2901.
“If you have some items at home that could help, please drop them off here at Mortlake and we’ll take care of the rest. Maybe you’re going to the supermarket for yourself and feel like throwing a few extra things in the trolly for our impacted families,” she said.
“We thank our wonderful community in advance for their generosity and kindness and wish everyone impacted a safe and speedy recovery from this horrific event.”
