Great news for residents, families and staff. Abbeyfield Mortlake is officially out of lockdown as of 7am this morning.
Thank you for everyone’s patience over the past week while we undertook strict infection control measures to contain a gastro outbreak.

Abbeyfield Mortlake has activated its lockdown procedures after a small number of its aged care residents displayed gastro symptoms in the past 24 hours.
Chief executive officer Deb Rantall said the organisation was well prepared and had acted quickly to contain the outbreak.
“Our nurse care manager Amanda Castersen has activating control measures to protect the safety and wellbeing of our residents, families and staff,” Mrs Rantall said.
“We are working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services to control the situation.”
Mrs Rantall said strict infection control measures undertaken included;
- Additional clinical staffing resources in the facility
- Close consultation with local general practitioners and medical services
- Cessation of all communal activities
- Additional cleaning of communal areas
- The limiting of all non-essential visits
She said impacted residents had recovered well, however the strict infection control procedures would remain for eight days until there were no further cases.
“The health and wellbeing of our residents and staff remains our highest priority at all times,’’ she said.
“In order to reduce the risk of infection, we encourage families and other regular visitors to our facilities to avoid visiting if they have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone with vomiting and diarrhea.”
