Dear Aberlea community,

We would like to take this opportunity to update you on measures that we are taking to keep residents, visitors and staff safe during these challenging times. Please be assured that the safety of everyone at Aberlea is our paramount concern.

Visiting:

The Federal Government has advised that visits to aged care facilities be limited to short, two-person visits once a day, per resident, to protect those most vulnerable to COVID-19.

As advised via text message yesterday our preferred visiting times are between 2pm and 4pm daily. We recognise that all our resident’s circumstances differ and that the above my impact some more than others. If that is the case please contact Phil Irvine, Director of Care on 0447 626563 to discuss your individual needs.

Screening Visitors:

Those of you who have visited recently will have undergone screening before entering. We will continue to screen permitted visitors to Aberlea. Visitors who have symptoms of respiratory illness or have recently travelled overseas will not be permitted to enter. We thank you for your cooperation and patience in participating in this important process.

Social Distancing:

We ask that visitors observe social distancing by staying 1.5 metres apart from others during visits. Once again, we ask that visiting times are kept to a minimum.

Influenza Vaccinations:

The Federal Government have advised that people who have not been vaccinated for influenza will shortly not be permitted to enter aged care facilities. Please make arrangements as soon as possible to receive an influenza vaccination. In order to comply with this mandate, we will shortly be requesting proof of your vaccination before entry.

Keeping in Touch:

We appreciate that restricted visitation can be isolating and distressing for residents as well as loved ones. To assist, we would like to offer residents the ability to make “face-to-face” video calls. There are several ways this can be achieved:

  • Facebook Messenger – Add ‘Aberlea Mortlake’ as a friend
  • Facetime – for iPads and iPhones: add mortlakecomm@gmail.com as a contact to your device.
  • WhatsApp – ph 0427 055 394.

Our Resident Liaison Debi McAuliffe will assist residents with the technical side of making or receiving these calls. Please contact Debi if you would like to book a time for her to facilitate a video call for your loved one. At this stage, we can assist residents make face-to-face video calls during these times:

  • Tuesdays: 6pm-8pm
  • Thursdays: 6pm-8pm and
  • Saturdays: 10am-12noon

To phone residents via normal telephone, please call 55 992901, or dial the resident’s own phone number. Further, if you are interested in purchasing an Ipad for your loved one, we are also available to assist in this process.

Finally, if you would like to send letters, greetings etc. via email to residents, we would be delighted to pass them on. We encourage children currently unable to visit to send drawings, photos, stories etc, to their loved ones either via email on mortlakecomm@gmail.com, or via regular post to Aberlea, 30 Shaw Street, Mortlake, Vic, 3272.

We once thank you for your continued support during these difficult times. If you have any queries on any matter related to the above, please contact either myself or Phil Irvine, Director of Care.

Kind Regards,

David Knight
Chief Executive Officer
